Product Overview
Single crystal CVD diamond combines optical transmission with high thermal conductivity, mechanical strength and chemical stability. It is particularly useful in optical systems where conventional window materials may be limited by heat load, wear or harsh operating conditions.
Our optical grade material is supplied as polished single crystal CVD diamond plates or windows. Size, thickness, surface finish and other requirements can be selected according to the intended optical system.
For applications sensitive to internal stress, birefringence or optical absorption, please provide the relevant requirement when requesting a quotation so that the appropriate material grade and inspection method can be confirmed.

Typical Applications
Laser Windows
CVD diamond is used as an optical window material in laser systems where thermal loading and long-term stability are important. Its high thermal conductivity helps remove heat from the illuminated area, reducing the thermal effects that can occur in high-power optical systems.
Infrared Optical Windows
Optical grade CVD diamond can be used for infrared windows in demanding environments where optical transmission must be combined with mechanical durability and chemical resistance.
Spectroscopy
Diamond windows are used in optical and spectroscopic systems where a durable optical interface is required. Custom dimensions and thin plates can also be supplied for laboratory setups and experimental instruments.
Research and Scientific Instruments
Single crystal CVD diamond is commonly requested for optical research, laser experiments and material studies where crystal quality, surface condition or internal stress may be important. Small quantities are available for initial evaluation and R&D projects.
Single Crystal or Polycrystalline CVD Diamond?
Both single crystal and polycrystalline CVD diamond can be used in optical applications, but they are not interchangeable in every project.
Single crystal CVD diamond is generally considered when crystal uniformity, internal stress, birefringence or a small high-quality optical aperture is important.
Polycrystalline CVD diamond is often considered when a larger optical window is required.
If you are unsure which material is more appropriate, send us the required aperture, wavelength, thickness and application conditions for evaluation.
Surface Finish and Optical Quality
Surface quality is particularly important for optical diamond components. Depending on the application, we can discuss requirements for:
- Surface polishing
- Surface roughness
- Parallelism
- Flatness
- Edge condition
- Internal stress
- Crystal orientation
- Optical inspection
Not every optical project requires the same level of polishing or characterization. Specifying only the parameters that are important to the application can help avoid unnecessary processing cost.
Inspection and Testing
Inspection can be arranged according to the product specification and application. Available inspection may include:
- Dimensional inspection
- Thickness measurement
- Microscope inspection
- Surface condition inspection
- Internal stress inspection
- Crystal orientation
- Surface roughness measurement
- Other application-specific testing
Some specialized optical or material characterization may require separate testing or a third-party laboratory. Please confirm the required test data before ordering.
Custom Optical Diamond Windows
In addition to standard square plates, we can provide custom optical diamond components according to drawings or specifications. Customization may include:
- Round windows
- Rectangular windows
- Custom dimensions
- Thin diamond plates
- Laser cutting
- Precision polishing
- Special edge profiles
- Custom crystal orientation
- Application-specific inspection
For custom parts, drawings are preferred whenever dimensional tolerances or special edge geometry are required.
