MCD Monocrystalline Diamond Plates for Precision Cutting Tools
MCD monocrystalline diamond plates are synthetic single crystal diamond blanks used for manufacturing ultra-precision cutting tools, diamond turning tools and custom diamond inserts.
Produced by the HPHT process, these diamond plates are widely used in optical mold machining, non-ferrous metal cutting, ultra-precision turning and micro-machining applications where tool edge quality and wear resistance are critical.
Diamond Component supplies MCD plates in sizes from 1 mm to 8 mm, with thicknesses from 0.1 mm to 2.0 mm. Different shape grades are available to match various tool geometries and edge-preparation requirements.

Designed for Diamond Tool Manufacturing
Unlike diamond powder, abrasive grits or gemstone materials, MCD plates are supplied as functional diamond blanks for tool fabrication.
Typical applications include:
Ultra-precision diamond turning tools
Single crystal diamond cutting tools
Optical mold machining tools
Micro-cutting tools
Diamond fly-cutting tools
Custom diamond inserts
Research and prototype tooling
Many customers purchase MCD plates as the starting material for producing cutting edges used in optical, aerospace, semiconductor and advanced manufacturing applications.
Shape Grades
Different shape grades are available depending on the intended tool design.
| Grade | Description | Typical Use |
| SCD11 | Standard geometry suitable for square, rectangular, round or custom blanks | General-purpose tool manufacturing |
| SCD12 | Two right-angle corners on one side | Cutting edge and tool tip preparation |
| SCD13 | All corners relieved or notched | Special tool geometries and custom inserts |
| SCD23 | Available upon request | Application-specific designs |
The most suitable grade depends on edge location, tool geometry and the customer's manufacturing process.
Side Orientation Options
Side {100} and Side {110} orientations are available.
Orientation selection is often determined by the intended cutting direction and tool design. Customers who already have an established manufacturing process usually specify the required side orientation during RFQ.
If orientation is important for your application, please include this information when requesting a quotation.
Commonly Requested Sizes
Although custom dimensions are available, many enquiries fall within the following range:
| Parameter | Typical Range |
| Length / Diameter | 1–8 mm |
| Thickness | 0.1–2.0 mm |
The final size is usually selected according to tool geometry, edge design and mounting method.
Typical Applications
MCD diamond plates are commonly used for tools intended to machine:
Aluminum and aluminum alloys
Copper and copper alloys
Brass and bronze
Optical plastics
Acrylic and PMMA
Graphite
Non-metallic materials
Other non-ferrous materials requiring high surface finish
Material suitability ultimately depends on cutting conditions, tool geometry and machining requirements.
Inspection and Supply
Available inspection information may include:
