MCD Diamond Blanks for Wire Drawing Dies
MCD diamond blanks (monocrystalline diamond blanks) manufactured from HPHT synthetic single crystal diamond for precision wire drawing die production.
Supplied with standard 3-point / <111> crystal orientation, these diamond blanks are widely used for manufacturing fine wire drawing dies, bonding wire dies, EDM wire dies and other high-precision drawing tools. The single crystal structure provides excellent wear resistance, stable bore geometry and long service life in demanding wire drawing applications.
Standard sizes are available from stock, while custom dimensions, polishing levels and orientation requirements can be supplied according to customer specifications.

Why Use MCD for Wire Drawing Dies?
MCD has been used in precision wire drawing die manufacturing for decades and remains one of the most widely accepted materials for ultra-fine wire production.
The absence of grain boundaries allows the die bore to maintain excellent dimensional stability during operation, helping reduce uneven wear and supporting consistent wire quality throughout long production runs.
Typical advantages include:
Excellent wear resistance,Stable die geometry,Long service life,Good bore polishability,Consistent drawing performance,Suitable for ultra-fine wire production
Typical Applications
MCD diamond blanks are commonly used for manufacturing:
Fine wire drawing dies,Ultra-fine wire dies,Gold bonding wire dies,Copper bonding wire dies,Aluminum bonding wire dies,Tungsten wire dies,Stainless steel wire dies,EDM wire dies,Medical wire dies,Precious metal wire dies,Special alloy wire dies。
Crystal Orientation
Standard products are supplied with 3-point / <111> orientation, which is commonly preferred for wire drawing die production.
This orientation helps achieve more predictable wear behavior and is widely used throughout the wire drawing industry.
Alternative orientations may be available for special applications upon request.
MCD vs PCD for Wire Drawing Dies
| Material | Typical Characteristics |
|---|---|
| MCD (Monocrystalline Diamond) | Single crystal structure, excellent bore stability, preferred for ultra-fine wire drawing |
| PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) | Higher toughness, commonly used for larger wire sizes and general drawing applications |
Material selection depends on wire diameter, production speed, wire material and expected die life.
Available Size Range
Standard inventory typically covers thicknesses from approximately 0.6 mm to 2.2 mm.
The most suitable blank size depends on:
Required die hole size,Wire material,Drawing reduction ratio,Expected die life,Manufacturing process,Detailed size information can be supplied according to the required application.
Surface Finish Options
Several supply conditions are available depending on the customer's die manufacturing process:
| Surface Condition | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| As-Cut | Customer machining and die preparation |
| Polished | Precision die manufacturing. If polished, the cost will significantly increase. |
Custom Manufacturing
Custom MCD blanks can be supplied according to drawing or process requirements.
